Reflection 4

Final Reflection- Critical Thinking

In this course we learned different principles about critical thinking, which is another word for evaluating a problem. We learned how to gather information, analyze it and study it. We also learned how to back up our information with evidence. Critical thinking will help up with different courses and majors in the college because it help me to think outside the box. So in the future we will not have any problems to understand and analyze any topic or issue.

In the course we also learned strategies of how to be cognitive thinker.  As a cognitive thinker i learned how to deduct and conclude and infer. We did this by working on a few scientific projects like "making toast" or "finding demand of products in the market" and then analyzing the informations we get.

Reversibly, we also learned the things that will stop us from being cognitive thinkers. So now I know what we must avoid in the future and what will stop me from analyzing things. On the other hand I learned that being a cognitive thinker is important to evaluate and make arguments. For example, if I think some product or issue is a good thing, then I know how to conclude it is a good thing and to convince my family and friends to buy it.  This is also called reasoning through strategies and concepts we learned in the course, specifically in case studies.

Finally, I think this course enhanced by critical thinking in life. When I want to buy something or when someone tells me about an issue or topic, I know what strategy to use in order to make conclusions about it. I also learned how to make surveys and the important features in them. I learned how to analyze and I also learned how to make experiments. I really think I developed in this area when I studied this course.

Reflection 3

Reflection 3- Advertisement Project

In this project we learned the language and techniques of persuasion in advertisement (pathos, ethos, logos). We also learned the appeal to emotion in advertisement (positive emotion/negative emotion). We learned the different types/ strategies of advertising and what it base on. This was the most interesting and best project for me because I am really interested in advertising and how to do it. For the teacher, we had to hand in the following: 3 Advertisement Analysis papers (from magazine), the Concept Model, the Final Advert, and the Written Explanation.

I think in our life today, advertisement is very significant because we can make a business at home or a big business and to that we need to know how to advertise. If we do not make a business, we have friends and family who do, so we can help them with what we learned. I like projects with creativity. In this project we had to create a poster for a product or service that we invented from our heads. Our business was about a service called: AT YOUR SERVICE, which helps to do your errands, any time anywhere. We drew a sketch then we implemented it using illustrator program.

Here we also learned critical thinking and evaluating before really implementing the project. We learned how to work in a team and being cooperative and we learned that making conclusions and analyzing is very important before implementing a project.

Reflection 2 (research project)

Scientific Research Project (PS vs. XBOX)

In this scientific research project we target gaming fanatics to choose between PlayStation and Xbox, and to explain which and why this gaming console is better. We created a survey on an online survey website (freesurveysonline). Then we gave the link to respondents to answer. When we get the answers we analyzed them as a whole team.

But why did we do this? By doing all of this we learned skills to help us decide what the best seller in the market is and what would be more successful in a market. The respondents answered questions which were quantitative and qualitative, like: what do you prefer most and why, what is more expensive, what are the best games (reordering) and other questions. The end result was that PlayStation has more demand. Xbox on the other hand was more complex.

Circulating the survey and getting the answer helped us understand the console market more and therefore helped us in our scientific research inquiry project.

Reflection 1 (toast Experiment)

Reflection –Toast Experiment

As part of being a critical thinker is trial and error, or making predictions and then deducing the final results. When we have the final results then we can analyze it.

In this experiment we did in the classroom is the 'toast bread' experiment. We also called it the experimentation activity. It was important to collect answers to questions and gather them to make conclusions/ answer questions. So we made a group of 3 girls and each one of us had a toaster and a piece of bread. Then we were asked by the teacher to find out which setting on the toaster will give us the best result on the toast bread. Which mean: not very burned (black color) or very white. It must be golden and nice.

We chose the setting number 4 on our toaster because we assume that it will be the perfect heat to make our perfect toast golden. When it was done, we took a picture of it and then we answered a sheet if it was : not really toasted, too light, just right, too dark, burnt. But from the first try, our toast bread was "just right".Then we did the experiment again, and again. Next two times we chose setting 6, and setting 5. But it was too dark for setting 6, and just right for setting 5.

This experiment was so much fun. And we learned that we need to try again and again to get the perfect result. We made predictions and assumptions. Then there was analyzing. So we used critical thinking and it helped us a lot especially if we will apply this in our real life situations.
